I loved coming upon this place after walking to see King Kamehameha statue. Staff was welcoming and friendly. They offered to show me how to make my own wrapping paper by pressing wood blocks into paint. Cool! I came to see the art exhibit, which was nice all around. At this time, it's art depicting or embodying Native Hawaiian plant or animal species only. Marcia, who works at upstairs desk, educated me on the exhibit, Native flora and fauna, and on Hawai'i in general. I would definitely recommend this place and I would return.
Really cool art gallery in the middle of a giant park with tons of open space, palm trees, banyan trees, and a river running through it. The coolest part of the art center is the stone fountain rising to the second level from the ground floor. Also, the circular shape of the building itself makes viewing the artwork feel "seamless", if that makes sense.
We happened across the Wailoa Art Center while walking around Hilo. It was a nice surprise to find this lovely little gallery. Besides the interesting display of art to admire, the Center also provided a comfortable place to sit out of the sun for a while. The availability of restrooms was also appreciated.
Such a beautiful creative space. The open air feel of the gallery lends to meandering and taking time with all that's there. Love my visits there!
Wonderful exhibit space with truly wonderful pieces in many different mediums.
