Things to Consider
  • Owner refuses to give teachers health insurance, leading to a loss of passionate, pre-COVID teachers.
  • The studio's vibe has changed since pre-COVID; it no longer feels like a friendly, family-like environment.
  • Current teachers may lack the skill to effectively teach higher-level students.
  • The teaching method is restrictive, with students copying drawings from drawers, which can limit creativity.
  • The teaching method is described as 'just copy it' and may not be the best approach.
  • The author, after 6 years, has moved on to find a better place due to the changes.

I've been going here for the past 6 ish years now ever since I was around 7 years old. (For reference I'm 13 right now) In that time, I have done chalk pastel, watercolor, sketching, and just started oil. Now I do love this place, but if I compared the studio to how it was pre-covid, I think the new teachers are just not it. Most of the pre-covid teachers who were actually passionate about teaching quit because the owner refuses to give them health insurance. After the last of the pre-covid teachers left, the vibe is not the same. It doesn't feel like the friendly, family-like studio it did before. Class used to be fun with the teachers joking around but now it's just eh. The new teachers don't have the skill to teach higher level students which causes them to leave the studio and find a better place. The teaching method in here also isn't the best. It kind of feels like they're limiting your creativity. The class goes like this, you pick a drawing from the drawers based on your level and you copy it. That's it. I wish I could recommend this place but after everything, even I have moved on to find a better place.

I have been taking classes for several months now at The Studio in Crossroads and I wanted to give a big callout to the team there and in particular Justin and Ian. I went from knowing nothing about painting to actually being able to create a decent painting. The Friday studio is great for adults who want to learn and practice. Thanks again!

My 4yr old just love this place . She has learnt many things, the color combinations and has improved a lot in her drawing skills too. She never wants to miss even a single class .
